Sporting Chance is a neighbourhood sports project for children of 9 to 12 years of age. The project has been running successfully throughout Edinburgh since 2001. At present the project delivers three main activities - Little Athletics, Kwik Cricket and Mini Tennis. These are delivered within 47 Primary Schools in Edinburgh.
The Sporting Chance project aims to:
- Promote active healthy living
- Increase first time participation in sport
- Make children feel confident about taking part in sport
- Widen children's sporting horizons
- Establish Multi-Sport Clubs and Sport Specific Clubs in local communities
The project is organised through the City of Edinburgh Council's Children and Families department and is jointly funded by the City of Edinburgh Council and NHS Lothian through the Scottish Executive's Health Improvement Fund.
